Forestry Mulching

Land management must move towards sustainability, and forestry mulching is surpassing conventional land clearing and management strategies at a rapid rate. Forestry mulching is now the accepted industry practice for most utility ROW clearing, habitat restoration, wildfire prevention and watershed restoration. Mulching is quickly replacing traditional “scrape/ haul/burn” practices. Municipalities are also tightening up on regulations and oversight of burning, and demanding more conscientious results.Who really wants to be the guy that had the brush pile burning, and it got away from him? Or the guy that ran the bulldozer all over his place tearing up the topsoil, ripping up grass and losing a bunch of his soil once the rains hit.

Forestry Mulching is becoming much more popular in the Sacramento Mountains primarily for wildfire prevention and watershed restoration projects. DID YOU KNOW, the average 12" diameter pine trees drinks 120 gallons a day? Think of how much healthier your other trees would be, if you thinned out the underbrush and restored some of this water to the other trees!

WHAT IS IT THOUGH?!
Forestry mulching is the single step process by which undesirable vegetation (trees, brush, stumps, etc) is ground into mulch by mobile machinery. The mulch is spread as evenly as possible over the area to retard initial regrowth, prevent erosion and replenish the topsoil base as it breaks down. Unlike other clearing methods, forestry mulching leaves no brush piles, and no burning or scarred up land. Damage to "keeper" trees is greatly reduced because forestry mulching protects the vital topsoil layer and feeder roots. The landowner is left with a fresh carpet of mulch which naturally decomposes into rich topsoil. Mulching is faster and cheaper than traditional land clearing methods.
